Repositioning The Agricultural Sector For Economic Growth
webinar

More than ever before, there is need for the diversification of Nigeria’s economy. This necessity has been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As as 2020, over 70% of Nigerians are engaged in agriculture. Nigeria is reported to have over 84 million hectares of fertile land, albeit, only 41% of Nigerian land is being cultivated. According to FAO, over 72% of Nigerian smallholders live below $1.9 a day.
In June 2020, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved Nigeria Economic Sustainability Development (NESP) with a primary objective of responding robustly and appropriately to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Agriculture was most interestingly named as the first key project that will be used to stimulate and sustain our economy. According to the report, it will be through “A massive agricultural programme, that is expected to bring between 20,000 and 100,000 hectares of new farmland under cultivation in every state, as well as support offtake and agro-processing, with low-interest credit in order to create millions of direct and indirect job opportunities.

This webinar will shed light on challenges MSMEs in agriculture are facing, opportunities in agribusiness, and highlights of the agricultural plan and how MSMEs can position themselves to key into the plan.
