  • Born to a nomadic family at Mamukan village in Jada local government area of Adamawa state.
  • Having lived a semi-nomadic life, Ahmadu was among the pioneer set of the nomadic primary school, Mamukan in 1991, effectively dividing his early childhood years between school in the morning hours and cattle herding in the afternoon.
  • In 1998, Ahmadu was among 30 nomadic children selected to be trained as nomadic teachers at the Federal College of Education, Yola, a program sponsored by the British Department for International Development. Within two years, he had completed the National Teachers Institute’s curriculum, graduating with the Grade II certificate in 1999/2000. He later returned to the same college and earned the Nigerian certificate in education in 2004. With the excellent results he obtained, Ahmadu proceeded to the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a first class degree in Linguistics.
  • His brilliant performance earned him admission and funding for a master’s degree at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Where he once again graduated with an ‘excellent’ grade. Thereafter, he gained admissions and won competitive international PhD scholarships at reputable universities, including the University of Florida at Gainesville, USA, and the University of Warsaw, Poland. He chose the latter for his doctoral studies, which he completed within a record two years, with numerous publications by top ranking publishers and international conferences around the world.
  • During his doctoral studies, he won numerous scholarships at various universities including the University of Hamburg, University of Cologne, and the University of Vienna, where he taught courses, gave guest lectures and presented research reports. Having worked in a research project on African languages, Ahmadu’s doctoral dissertation was assessed as a breakthrough in the cognitive linguistics study of African languages in general, and was offered to stay as an assistant professor in the university.
  • Ahmadu’s career is no less a fascinating journey than his educational trajectory. Having being trained as a nomadic teacher at FCE, Yola, he returned to teach at his alma matter and other nomadic schools from 1999 – 2012. Within these thirteen years, he had taught and inspired nomadic kids who have now distinguished themselves in their various fields, including medicine, engineering, education, etc. Ahmadu was appointed by many tertiary institutions as a lecturer including his alma matter, FCE Yola (declined), University of Maiduguri (declined), Bauchi State University (declined), and a host of other non-official offers. He later settled for Bayero University, Kano in 2012, to help establish their newly founded linguistics programs, and the approved undergraduate course in Fulfulde.
  • Ahmadu is passionate in community organization and grassroots development. He has served as the secretary of his community’s Pastoral Resolve, and helped in founding various community organizations, one of which is the Mamukan nomadic ex-boys association which harnessed the resources of nomadic kids that graduated from the school to build classrooms for the next generation.
  • Upon his return from Malaysia, Ahmadu mobilized friends from similar backgrounds and founded the Organization for Educational Development (OED), which focuses on subsidizing education for selected gifted nomadic kids.
  • He co-founded the Fulbe Development and Cultural Organization which is a dialogue-based organization that aims at fighting the unnecessary hate, stereotypes and conflicts in Nigeria, to find local and community-based solutions to the herder/farmer crises in Nigeria and elsewhere.
  • He is currently working on the Mamukan nomadic community water and healthcare projects for which he hopes to get support from a number of international donors to boost the socio-economic state of the community and its environs.
  • His passion lies in human and community development through education and vocational training.
  • Ahmadu is also a vocal public analyst and an astute commentator on Nigerian affairs.
